Good Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
Good Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) helps your website get found more easily on search engines like Google through organic search (as opposed to Paid Ads or Pay Per Click - PPC). Here's some straightforward tips to make your website more search engine friendly.
Review your current website
You can check how your current website is performing using tools like SEMRUSH or Lighthouse (a plugin for Google Chrome browser). This will give you an idea for how your website is performing and give you a benchmark to build from.
Don't stress too much about where your page appears when you search on your computer or mobile phone, I suggest using software to help.
Choosing the Right Words
Find the Right Keywords: Think about the words your customers might use to find your services or products online. These are where you can start to build a set of keywords. You can also ask use free tools like Google's Keyword Planner or ask a digital agency like SEEN for help in identifying the best keywords.
Use Keywords Wisely: Sprinkle these keywords throughout your website’s text (in context of course, your website content should still be easy for your reader to understand), especially in main titles and the first few lines of your pages.
Making Your Website Easy to Read
Clear Titles and Subtitles: Make sure your page titles and section headings are clear and tell the reader what to expect in the following text.
Avoid Overusing Keywords: It's important not to overdo it with the keywords – they should fit naturally into your sentences.
Describing Your Pages
Summarise Each Page: Write a short summary (called a meta description) for each page. This is what shows up in search engine results. Keep it under 160 characters.
Optimising Images
Name Your Images: When you add images, give them names and descriptions that reflect what’s in the picture and, if possible, include your keywords.
Keeping Up-to-Date
Add Fresh Content Regularly: Updating your website with new content regularly can help improve your search engine ranking. Consider adding a blog or news section.
Quality Matters: Make sure your content is useful and interesting. Good content gets noticed and shared, which can help your SEO.
